My Story

In 1997 I visited the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts in Norwich. A private collection of artefacts from around the world beautifully exhibited alongside modern contemporary art.
It was during this visit that I saw a collection of Lucie Rie and Hans Coper pots. At the time I had no idea who these people were but the work of Hans Coper had a huge impact on me. It was a language of expression that resonated deep.

To learn more I began a full time ceramic degree at Cardiff University under the tuition of Peter Starkey and Geoffrey Swindell.
Peter was very much from the Bernard Leach school, teaching traditional pottery techniques, its origins and philosophies. In contrast Geoff who was taught by Lucie Rie and Hans Coper at the Royal College of Art introduced me to the concept of fine art pottery. Gently challenging tradition whilst still remaining respectful.

I graduated in 2001 and worked within education until opening my first studio and gallery in 2010.
Since then I assisted Gas Kimshima to build and fire two Japanese medieval style anagama kilns in the UK, I've also participated and exhibited at a number of ceramic events Internationally.

In 2018 I joined forces with my partner Penelope Vallejo and moved my studio from the UK to Catalonia, Spain. Here I continue to develop my ceramic work whilst teaching classes.
Together we also organise International workshops working with some of the leading ceramic artists from around the world.
